My soundcard Empty My soundcard

Post  Blasfimus Caine Wed Sep 02, 2009 9:04 pm

I was wondering if anyone can possibly shed some light for me. I am currently unable to hear poeple talk in Vent., nor hear any sounds in game. I can however hear Vent's alert sounds. ie: connecting to server sound. I tried checking my settings in all my programs and such, and all seem to be okay. I personally believe it is my headphones that may be the culprit. Because when I fiddle with the connections at back of computer, I can get some sound of voices coming through at times. But I would hate to think it is my soundcard. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Blasfimus

Sounds utterly strange..
What OS do you have? xp? vista? win7?

in vista and win7 you can set each programs sounds just the way you like. and it sounds like you've muted everything else than system sounds.

Ooor you have fiddled with the sound output at the control panel -> sound options.

very weird problem, there's no way your headphones are causing this problem unless the headphones are usb ones which have integrated soundcard.

Please elaborate a little bit more

Hmm you may have already tried all this but it is best to start with the basics.. Try following these steps.

1. Unplug your mic
2. Restart your computer
3. Once booted up, make sure sound is functioning properly without mic or headphones plugged in. If it is, continue to step 4. (if not it may be your soundcard...)
4. Plug in mic / headphones THEN open and connect to vent
5. Go into vent setup
6. Make sure your mic and headphones are set as the input and output devices from the dropdown bars on the top right of the vent setup.
7. Locate the two device buttons on the bottom right of the vent setup screen (input & output devices)
8. Click on each button and enable your headphones and mic as the default playback device (this will set your computer to use your headphones for all audio and mic for all voice)

If that doesnt work im not sure... will need more details.

Thanks for the replies. I just ended up getting a new headphone set that is USB. That way I know it works.

Cheers, Blas.
